either you were nearer light source or one of the lights wasn't on? Check shutter speed and aperture. Then scream.

Russell your shutter was only open half as long as yesterdays. If anyone ever told you as a child ' i'll box your ears ' then you have now fulfilled the destiny.
russell higgs: thanks. i still don't get why its different though. i didn't do anything.

It seems Russell that your camera is reacting to this additional light that you have introduced, I agree with the above comments, I think that your camera wants to naturally under-expose. Can you manually set the shutter speed to around 1/6 th of a second? But this is a very slow shutter speed so you will have to remain very still when taking your portraits.

Enough of technical issues. I really like the new shades, pound shop? I need to know what the box contained, it will so affect how I feel about this image!
russell higgs: so basically my camera has a private criteria all of its own. on saturday it decides to do one thing, and on sunday it decides to do something else. thats just great.

the shades are poundshop yes. the cereal is a very nice, not too sickly sweet, honey puff multi-grain (whole wheat, whole barley, whole brown rice, whole oats, whole triticale, whole rye, whole buckwheat)

I'm affraid that yes, your camera does have a mind of it's own! So, you will have to tame it and show it who is boss because if you do not then who is control of your portraits? You or a lump of Japanese plastic? Come on Russell take control of your destiny!

I'm with mal. dont take it from that thing. I am just guessing but i have a hunch that if you threatened to take some tory party photos with it it might come around.

Russell I think you have enough to approach the Photographer's gallery for a show. There's nothing wrong in trying to make money while one's having fun- is there?
