Russell just wondering how long it usually takes you to prepare for a shot. i can feel the weight of consumerism bearing down on you. nice photo. what happened to the pound shop?
russell higgs: These portraits are intended to be very immediate, spontaneous and unconscious. I rarely pre-plan them nor think about them until the moment when I decide I'm going to do today's shot.

Sometimes I assemble an image that looks good in the mirror but not in the subsequent photos. So I have to adjust the look or create an entirely new look. Sometimes an idea turns out to be frustratingly fiddly to assemble or maintain. So the process varies day to day, from ten minutes to a couple of hours.

Today's portrait is the first shot I took of a total of just five. Some days I shoot perhaps 70 or 80 shots over 3 or 4 different sessions before I'm satisfied. Simultaneously I'm usually taking shots to also use at a later stage in one or other of my photo-webcomic strips.

WHAT'S YOUR M&S

Well they do make very lovely salad things, but I'm wondering what you took home in "your" M&S bag?

They also have an offer on Martinez Bujanda Rioja which is also lovely.
