BIOLOGY 1/3

this is my entry for Theme10 : "SELF PORTRAIT"

and also day one of another 3 part journey.

This is my mum and dad on their wedding day.

Its probably about 51 years ago, about 1955, and the location is probably Hornsey Town Hall, north London.

My dad must be about 36 here and my mum about 22. This was my mum's second marriage. She divorced her first husband (my brother's father) after only a few years together. My dad adopted my brother (who was 8 years older than me) when my brother was 3, (which is why I'm guessing this wedding is 1955).

My dad died in 1970. He had cancer. My mum eventually married a third time and had a daughter, (my sister who is 14 years younger than me). My brother died in 1985 when he was 32. He OD'd on smack. My mum died just last year (2005).

previous images of my mum and dad over on flickr include......

Of all the portraits that might be submitted to Shutter today Russell, yours was the one I was looking for. Lovely to meet the parents and a very clever idea to repeat the image to.

Although you had shared that history with me, I'm still sorry that you have suffered it. Mal

Hello Russell, Nice to meet you. Very touching you composition (you are equal just as father). The text that you accompany, is sad, very sad. I have been understanding to you, nowadays 1 of December, also lost to my sister for 8 years. Cancer, she was 36 years old. Good luck friend.
Good Idea Russell because today I didn't see the point of visiting as you have one every day!

Russell this is not only beautiful but also very clever. I really like how your eyes are at the heart of your parents. It is such a nice photo of your parents as well. I think i will look for inspiration like this photo to remember my parents when they pass away.

Your self portraits are always very clever, and this one is very though-provoking and your text poignant. Good to meet you.

I don't usually comment on your pictures, but this one is different. It reminds me of the song 'My Father in (and?) Me', because the likeness is startling.
Great idea.
Thanks for the biology lesson and your personal history.

It's not easy being a parentless grown up. I'm sorry also about the untimely loss of your brother.

I really enjoy your portraits.
Sorry, should say I really admire your vision. Jz
