Sunday morning 31st may 2009
The day has arrived. The beginning of the end. This phase of my Daily Self Portrait project is finished.
I always said that if I felt I was cruising through this project, more often than I was innovating or surprising myself, then it would be time to stop. And this past month or so I have felt like I have just been going through the motions most of the time.
I had hoped to at least keep going till the project's 3rd anniversary, mid July. But yesterday I was out all day with a friend and then we ended up at a party in the evening and while I was there I realised I wasn't going to bother making the effort to come home in time to make saturday's portrait.
Every day, since I started this project back in July 2006, I've always stuck to the criteria that each portrait had to be made fresh that day, sometime before midnight.
There will be a new Daily Project in some form in the near future. And some time quite soon I will collate the archives of this project into a book and poster. There is a whole set of as yet unseen alternative poses from the past 3 years which are very often the best shots from each day (whereas this online archive is the best shots that fulfill the criteria I set; it's always a forward facing identity card pose).
Stay tuned. Keep well. Thanks for dropping by.
