just noticed you've shaved your head.......any particular reason for doing that ?

russell higgs: probably the majority of my adulthood i've opted for a shaved head.
its simple. its low maintenance. its something i can do for free.
and a change is always good.
i let my hair grow over the past few years, and it was nice having hair. But hair is really high maintenance and especially as i've gotten older and its begun to thin and get wispy and get awkward bald patches etc. I prefer not to be distracted by vain aesthetic insecurities. A shaved head is straightforwardly reliable without any need to check my reflection.
and also with the portraits my hair was often an aesthetic nuisance i found. A shaved head is a more useful frame/foundation i think.
plus maybe i'll let it grow again and that'll be a time based component of the portraits.
Great creation here Russell. I especially like the reflection of the octopus, giving a "medusa" effect.
I went with the shaved head for a year or so and enjoyed the low-maintenance aspect of it, but when I got me a new gal companion she [being a seriously Buddhist type up-country Thai gal] found it a bit of a challenge cos she said I looked like a monk and monks are untouchables. So...I took the only sensible solution and promptly got a bit of hair happening again.
russell higgs: As I've recently explained to one of the builders working on the housing estate where i live, who on a few occaisions has expressed his desire to have sex with me, I have opted for celibacy these past few years.
